Book Review: Princess Masako Prisioner of the Crystanthamum Throne

Princess Masako: Prisoner of the Crystanthemum Throne". Dude, this book is messed up. And the author is quoting notable sources like: Leslie Downer Herbert Bix Texts from the Royals Aaaaaand the author makes the claims to have been following this case for 13 years since the book has been published. Since then, the book has been protested against and banned (by the Kunaicho I presume).... so what do you all think of the book? A buncha hoopla or credible? I am glad to see that the author takes the lengths to acknowledge his inability to interview Masako-Hime (eh...that is what I should correctly address her as, right? o.O not 100% sure). Or the family. I would love now, to hear on the flip side, a bit more about the Kunaicho that governs the imperial family's lives. It truly seems from what he is writing, that indeed the royal family of Japan are treated as museum pieces and not living breathing human beings (as James so eloquently put it). I've gotten to the part where Masako-hime met her husband for the first time. So I understand that so far, she spent her whole life seeking a stellar education and was a bright woman with a great future in International Relations. The thesis she wrote at Havard based on the Economical impact of Oil prices in Japan is a model that is still being tested with the current jump and then downward spiral of the past year. But she wrote the document in the eighties! She also speaks several languages: Japanese, English, German, Russian, French.....I know there's more but those are the ones I remember. So it must be tough...having all this knowledge, experience, the drive to help others and the desire to help globalization with the mindset to improve the quality of life the globe-over....*yet now she can't do a damned thing but smile, wave, and look pretty. Oh, and have a boy. K thx bai.* I can see the grounds for her depression. Especially since then her sis-in-law had a baby boy. The book manifests a sad story. It discusses a perceptive picture of the agency which controls the lives of Imperial Family. I say so that this book is sad because the family members don't have direct control over their own lives.

Essay
