THIS WEEKEND! October 17 - 18 "From Kimono to Couture" at the Textile Museum in Washington D.C.

Drawing inspiration from The Textile Museum's fall exhibition, Contemporary Japanese Fashion: The Mary Baskett Collection, this weekend conference will explore the evolution of Japanese fashion from the enduring kimono to the latest styles worn on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka.

Symposium Topics on Saturday, Oct. 17:

  • The Kimono Mirror: Reflections of Japanese Culture and Style
  • The Geisha Influence on Kimono Fashion
  • The Modern Kimono: Women and Fashion in Interwar Japan
  • Found in Translation: The Japanese Fashion Avant Garde
  • In Search of an Identity: Japanese Youth in Fashion Subcultures
  • Transforming Technologies in Japanese Textiles

*Sigh* Well, at least maybe OhioKimono can make it down to the fall exhibition...but that's just contemporary Japanese fashion, not kimono.
