There were once 500 male geisha in Japan.
The head of the Tokyo Asakusa Geisha Union is Keiji Chiba.
They are also known as Hokan.
The average training period for an apprentice is three years.
There is a newer hokan: Shichisuke Sakuragawa working.
There is an apprentice hokan as well: Shichitaro! And she is FEMALE!
35 years ago, there were 13 hokan. Now there are 5.
