Hachizaru - Hachiko's friend
I'm Hachizaru (Lotus Monkey), the first male geisha of the Hachisu Okiya in Totnes. I've gradually got into yukata, then kimono and haori and now love to go to town dressed up, and I help Hachiko with her kitsuke too. I also have some sagemono so I can go without my usual shoulder bag! I am interested in Gion culture and taikomochi and have Mr Taikomochi Arai's book which he kindly sends to enquirers. I play guitar, sing and write songs and have also recently bought a Matsomoku electric guitar, which isn't quite a shamisen but at least Japanese
Re: Hachizaru - Hachiko's friend
Very cool to meet a male kimono-san ^^ and from the UK! Definately check out the UK Kimono Jack group if you haven't already- I think their meetups are in London but it might be fun to meet up.
If you have details as to how to inquire for the book from Arai-san, please feel free to post it in the section about Taikomochi! I'd love to see it, and I'm sure others would, too.
Welcome to the forums ^^ I've got a whole SLEW full of stuff coming up very soon. I do a ton of research in the later winter months so expect a lot of updates shortly.

Re: Hachizaru - Hachiko's friend
Thanks for the information, I'm checking out Kimono (de) Jack out and will see about meetups. I've added comments to the Taikomochi forum, but I see Mr Arai's address http://www.mitene.or.jp/~houkan/2002/e00.html is already there. Do read it if you haven't!
Re: Hachizaru - Hachiko's friend
Oh, another thing- in the "Kimono-san and Furisode-san" sub-forum, feel free to post your web address or other information there. I'd like kimono-san groups to have their information listed there- any press is good press as the saying goes. ^^
